Le jour d'armistice en Belgique

Do the Quick World Quiz to Wake Up on
Encyclopedia Brittanica then go to
Flanders, Belgium

Regardez les videos de CNN Internationaux, s.v.p. Please watch videos below the photo reel, #1, 3, 6 Prince William (others are optional).

Assignment: Write response to today's videos,
photos, WWI notes, or how soldiers could be
honored in our world in French cahier.

The ceremony was held in French-speaking
Belgium where so many lives were lost and
the cost was so great. The poem "In Flanders Field" by John McCrae was written en avril 1915 to honor those who died during the Great War WWI of which he served. It seemed to show a soldier's mourning, remembrance, and is perhaps inspired by the hope found in the vibrant, red, poppies throughout the land in the spring of the year.
Ecoutez/ Play the song from this poem.
Lisez ensemble. Read aloud.
Challenge: FR 2 Could you Voice Thread this for EX CR by this Friday?

"Dans les champs de Flanders"  par John McCrae  (adapted translation of "In Flander's Field" located in Belgium where so many lives were lost in the trench warfare.)

Au champ d'honneur, les coquelicots
Sont parsemés de lot en lot
Auprès des croix; et dans l'espace
Les alouettes devenues lasses
Mêlent leurs chants au sifflement
Des obusiers.
Nous sommes morts,
Nous qui songions la veille encor'
À nos parents, à nos amis,
C'est nous qui reposons ici,
Au champ d'honneur.
À vous jeunes désabusés,
À vous de porter l'oriflamme
Et de garder au fond de l'âme
Le goût de vivre en liberté.
Acceptez le défi, sinon
Les coquelicots se faneront
Au champ d'honneur.
